With God I Can Scale a Wall!

It’s not every day I need to scale a wall in my life. But, when there is a wall, there comes a day, when it’s the right next step to take!

Do you have any walls you’re wanting to scale?

A relational wall is there with someone you love.

A wall of fear has you frozen, unable to move.

Depression has set in, and you are stuck.

Pornography is crippling you from having a personal relationship that is real.

Church has turned into a duty in your life, and you don’t know how to find God again in the emptiness.

Your marriage has turned into roommates just keeping up with all the responsibilities. Somehow love, friendship and enjoyment have gotten lost.

Any of these can form walls around us and hem us in. We become so accustomed to being bound by them, we lose hope that we could ever be free again.

I want you to listen to words from Psalm 18.

The writer, David, a person like you and me, has come to know God and speaks back a testimony to what God has done in his life.

“I love you, O Lord, my strength.

The Lord is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer; my God is my rock, In whom I take refuge.

He is my shield and the strength of my salvation, my stronghold.

I call to the Lord, who is worthy of praise, and I am saved from my enemies.

You, O Lord, keep my lamp burning; my God turns my darkness into light; With your help I can advance against a troop; with my God I can scale a wall.

It is God who arms me with strength and makes my feet like the feet of a deer; he enables me to stand on the heights…You broaden the path beneath me, so that my ankles do not turn.

The Lord lives!  Praise be to my Rock!”

I invite you to look closely at David’s testimony of the things God had done for him.  You may think his words are outdated and perhaps not relevant to you in 2022. Read them again and understand God has placed this testimony among the Psalms to speak to his people regardless of the century we live in.

These are words God has given to reveal Himself to us so he can be known by us!

Listen now, again, to the deeds God performed in David’s life:

You are my Rock, my fortress and my deliverer;

You are my Rock in whom I take refuge;

He is my shield and the strength of my salvation, my stronghold.

I call to the Lord and I am saved from my enemies.

You, Lord, keep my lamp burning; my God turns my darkness into light.

With your help I can advance against a troop; with my God I can scale a wall!

It is God who arms me with strength; He enables me to stand on the heights..You broaden the path beneath me so that my ankles do not turn.”

My encouragement to you:  After reading this Psalm through several times, place the wall you are facing before God. Call to Him, like David did, and ask that He would turn your present darkness into light and help you to scale the wall you have held out to Him. Let Him arm you with strength to stand up and to broaden your path underneath your feet.

Then trust the final words of David, “The Lord Lives!  Praise be to my Rock!”
