Mentoring

Pastoring a local church is not easy. Many pastors will tell you, “School did not prepare me for this.” Ministry confronts us with problems for which we are not trained. Those issues can attack the core of our identity and leave us feeling like a failure.

Fortunately, there is help. Others have gone before us. We can learn from the experiences, insight, and wisdom of mentors.  Mentoring at the Renewing Life Center provides encouragement through coaching which strengthen your heart and sharpen your skills. Pastor-mentors with decades of ministry experience have made themselves available through the Center to help and mentor other pastors. We believe healthy ministry begins with a healthy pastor. Mentorship can be a positive step in caring for yourself and helping you lead from a place of health.

We have partnered with respected and seasoned pastors to serve as mentors and be a help to the pastors in our valley.

You don’t need to walk alone or figure it out all by yourself.

Dr. Doug Meye

During 40 years of ministry, Doug has served as a youth pastor, pastor, interim pastor and in a network working with pastors.  As a planter and pastor of two very different churches (twenty years in one, seven years in the other), Doug is very familiar with the unique challenges of leading a small church with part-time staff, and a larger church with multiple full-time staff.

Since 2008, Doug has served on the staff of Transformation Ministries in various capacities.  Currently, he is the Developing Pastors Lead.  In this role, he oversees the ongoing spiritual development of pastors, organizing events, overseeing Pastor Mentor Groups, and personally mentoring pastors.  His Doctor of Ministry Thesis (Fuller Seminary) was on “Increasing Pastoral Excellence through Participation in Pastor Mentor Groups.” As one who has experienced the “joy of success, and the pain of failure”, Doug’s deep desire is to encourage pastors and help them ministry from a place of health in their own life.

Doug and his wife, Pat, have two adult children, and are now enjoying their first grandchild.

Mentoring Areas: self-care, self-awareness, restoration after failure, developing ministry strategy, preaching, budgeting, hiring, and succession.
